Musical Fabrics
My bachelor's thesis project was about a music wearable. For it I used lilypad sensors and triggered music using the Processing Minim library . It worked, but I found Processing to be not very good for sound (it froze frequently).
More recently I have been working on Musical Fabrics - continued work in collaboration with David Welch. Piezoresistive fabrics create soft sensors that send signals to a Puredata patch. Compared to Processing&minum, pd works sooo smooth... We exhibited one version of it at the 2012 MIT Techfair; below is a video of a musical fabric in action and the poster I designed to accompany the exhibition.
This is an ongoing project. One area of development is portable sound: we're experimenting with running the PureData on Beaglebone!
